Will A Man Rob God?

by Apostle Albert Phelps

When a bank is robbed the first thought that enters into the minds of intelligent people is to call the police. After the police are notified of the crime, an investigation begins, and if possible, the criminal is apprehended and placed in jail. Afterward, people say justice has prevailed. Church members rob God every Sunday. I’ll prove it by the word of God. The Bible says, "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings" (Mal. 3:8). The skeptics, unbelievers, and false church members have always robbed God. They say we are not supposed to tithe. God knew the so-called church members would rob him; he wrote it very plainly in the Bible, that if you are not tithing and giving an offering, you are robbing God. Now, if the modern churches believed in justice they would have the police and a paddy wagon at their churches each Sunday to handcuff those people that rob God in tithe and offerings and place them in jail. Then truthfully they can say justice has prevailed. Tithing is of God and not man, but modern churches have refused to accept and teach God’s commandments about tithing. It is important for us to read what God said about tithing. "And all tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s: It is holy unto the Lord ...the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord" (Lev 27:30-32).

The Bible says, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever" (Heb. 13:8). Everyone in the Bible that served God tithed and gave God offerings. Let us look at Abraham, "And he gave tithes of all" (Gen 14:20). What about Jacob? Jacob vowed, "… of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee" (Gen. 28:22). Apostle Paul said, "And verily they that are of the sons of Levi who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is of their brethren" (Heb. 7:5). Even the scribes, Pharisees, and hypocrites of Jesus’ day tithed. Jesus said, "Woe unto you scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have omitted the weightier matter of the law, judgment, mercy and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone" (St. Matt. 23:23). Justice will prevail when we pay tithe and give an offering unto the Lord. There is no exception according to the word of God. Will a man rob God? You better believe it! The Bible says man is robbing God. It’s a shame for church members, who go to church every Sunday, sing, pray, and preach about God, and then rob him before they leave their churches. They confess that they love God but they rob God before his eyes in their churches. For this cause, the Bible says, "Ye are cursed with a curse: For ye have robbed me, even this whole nation" (Mal. 3:9). The curses from God are sickness, disease, and suffering. Drug addiction, homosexuality, and lesbianism are among the major evils in this country today, just like in the days of Noah. Why? It’s because the so-called church folks are robbing God. Solomon said, "There is sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt" (Ecc. 5:13). David said, "Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me" (Psalm 50:14-15). Jesus said, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together, and running over shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again" (St. Luke 6:38). (Act 20:35) says, "...It is more blessed to give than to receive". In (2 Corinthians 9:7), God tells us, "Every man according as he has purposed in his heart, so let him give; not grudging, or of necessity: For God loveth a cheerful giver." Knowing these scriptures, when someone tells us something contrary, we shouldn’t pay him or her any attention. God is the only one we are to obey. Giving a tenth opens the door of our heart for God to bless us. If we fail to do so, we shall suffer the consequences. "Abel brought of his firstlings of his flock and of the fat there of unto the Lord. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and his offering: But unto Cain and his offering he had no respect... "(Gen. 4:4-5). "...there came one running, kneeling, and saying good master what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus answered, go sell what so ever thou hast, and give to the poor and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: And come take up the cross and follow me. This rich man became sad at Jesus’ saying and went away grieved..." (St. Mark 10:17-22). "Also, Jesus spoke of a certain rich man that had much good laid up for many years that said to his soul, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, thou fool this night thy soul shall be required of thee. So is he that lies up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God" (St. Luke 12:16-21).

Your money has something to do with your salvation. Those people mentioned in the Bible that refused to give God a tenth, lost their soul and were cast in the lake of fire and brimstone. It’s the truth, and it’s the word of God whether you believe it or not. Every Christian must tithe. The love of God makes us tithe and give an offering. Some people say, " I can’t afford to tithe". But we that are saved are saying we can’t afford not to tithe, because robbery is a sin. "...sin is the transgression of the law" (I John 3:4). God says, "The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts" (Haggai 2:8). "For the love of money is the root of all evil: Which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (I Tim. 6:10). Many church members are in trouble with God because of their money. They rob God, and at the same time they tell God they love him. Robbery is not an act of love and the people of God know the truth. Will a man rob God? God said it! Ye have robbed me, because you are not tithing and giving an offering. God requires all to, "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Mal. 3:10). A tenth of God’s money you receive should go into the ministry of Jesus Christ. God has never required his church to sell raffle tickets, having rummage sales, sell tickets for gospel singers, put on rallies, etc. to raise money for him. But he did require church members to tithe and give an offering to take care of the expenses of the gospel. Many churches don’t believe this, that’s okay, it’s the truth anyway. "...Tithing gives glory unto the name of the Lord..." (Mal. 2:2). It eliminates the curses and brings the blessings to you, saith the Lord. The beginning of salvation is to fear the Lord. Everyone who desires to be saved must hear, understand, and obey God’s commandments. After hearing the word of God, you must repent of all of your sins, (tithing is required) be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. "...the Holy Ghost whom God hath given to them that obey him" (Act 5:32). Will you obey the word of God? Pay your tithe and give God an offering. Remember tithe is a tenth of all God blesses you to receive. You will be glad that you have obeyed the word of God.
